Withlacoochee State Rail

The 46-mile Withlacoochee State Trail will re-open on Monday, May 4.

The City is offering only those recreational activities which allow people to follow the CDC guidelines. Federal and state social distancing/gathering guidelines remain in place. Groups of more than 10 will not be permitted, and social distancing of six feet is necessary to help prevent the spread of COVID-19.

Inverness supports reopening of local retails store and restaurants

Florida Governor, Ron DeSantis held a news conference to begin the re-opening of Florida on Monday, May 4th as presented in Executive Order 20-112. In-store retail sales establishments and restaurants may re-open subject to the following conditions:

  • Retail - In-store retail sales establishments may re-open at no more than 25 percent of their building occupancy and abide by the safety guidelines issued by the CDC and OSHA.
  • Restaurants - Must continue social distancing to maintain 6 feet between parties, seating only parties of 10 or fewer people and keeping bar counters closed to seating. Limit indoor dining to no more than 25 percent of building occupancy. Outdoor seating is also allowed using the same social distancing criteria listed in item #1 above.

In an effort to support its local restaurants, the City of Inverness is offering an opportunity to temporarily expand outdoor dining while indoor seating is limited by the phased re-opening of the State.  Outdoor dining may be expanded to other areas of the property, including lawns, sidewalks and parking areas subject to the following conditions.

Additional outdoor dining on City sidewalks is permitted and encouraged with social distancing.  An authorized representative must provide a drawing of any additional seating on City sidewalks with walking lane and room for people with disabilities to use the sidewalk. If restaurant seating is expanded into a parking area, a drawing of the plan must be approved by the Community Development Department.  There is no fee for this approval. According to recent dialogue with the Florida Division of Alcohol and Tobacco, alcoholic beverages are allowed in the temporary expanded outdoor dining areas.

For those establishments expanding on to City sidewalks or into private parking areas, please email your site plan and signed acknowledgement of the City’s conditions to  grice@Inverness-fl.gov  For further assistance, please contact Greg Rice at (352)726-3401.Public safety and social distancing continue to be the priority.

  • Bars, Pubs and Nightclubs  These establishments, that derive more than 50 percent of gross revenue from the sale of alcoholic beverages, will continue to suspend the sale of alcoholic beverages for on-premises consumption (see Executive Order 20-68).
  • Gyms, Fitness Centers, Personal care and Salons  These establishments, closed by Executive Order 20-71, will remain closed.

Boating

The City’s boat ramps remain open. It’s important that boaters continue to practice social distancing. All recreational boats must be at least 50 feet apart. Each boat must not have more than 10 people on board per the FWC Executive Order 20-09. The Citrus County Sheriff’s Office and Florida Fish and Wildlife officers will have a presence on the water to enforce the distancing rules.  The city encourages everyone to enjoy the lakes while adhering to COVID-19 guidelines.
