Code Enforcement Board

The Code Enforcement Board has the jurisdiction to hear and decide alleged violations of the Inverness Code of Ordinances. The Code Board issues findings of fact based on evidence presented and issues an order outlining the penalties of Non-Compliance. The Code Enforcement Board has the power to subpoena alleged violators and witnesses to its hearings, take testimony under oath, issue orders having the force of law and establish and levy fines, costs of repairs and liens. 
All members of the Code Enforcement Board must be residents of the City and serve without compensation.The Code Enforcement Board consists of seven (7) regular members and two (2) alternate members appointed by the City Council.  
The Code Enforcement Board membership is based on experience or interest and shall whenever possible, include at least five (5) of the following:
  • An architect
  • A businessman
  • An engineer
  • A general contractor
  • A subcontractor
  • A realtor
The Code Enforcement Board meets on an as needed basis. The regular schedule for monthly meetings is the third (3rd) Thursday of each month at 2:00 pm in the City Council Chambers located at 212 W. Main Street. This board functions as a Sunshine Committee under Florida State Statutes and, as such, all meetings are advertised and opened to the public.o
