**Update 08/29/23 10:03am**

In response to the storm, sanitation services for Tuesday, August 29th will continue as scheduled. Wednesday, August 30th will be delayed tentatively until Thursday August 31st. If safe conditions exist on Thursday morning, all collection routes will commence at daybreak.

Tropical Storm Idalia

 

The City of Inverness Administrative Offices, Parks, and Valerie Theatre will be closing at 5:00pm August 28th, and will be closed tentatively until Thursday, August 31st. 

Whispering Pines Park (including the Pool and Splash Pad) will be closing at the regularly scheduled times on August 28th and closing tentatively until Thursday, August 31st. 

 

The Citrus County Board of County Commissioners (BOCC) has issued a local state of emergency in preparation for Tropical Storm Idalia. Non-essential county offices will close at noon today, August 28, 2023, and remain closed on Tuesday, August 29, and Wednesday, August 30.

 

Residents living in campers, recreational vehicles, tents, other structures unable to withstand the winds of a tropical storm, or along the west side of U.S. Hwy 19 are advised to voluntarily evacuate. The most likely timeframe for deteriorating conditions across the state will be Tuesday evening and overnight from south to north along the Florida Gulf Coast.

 

Two full-service sandbag sites are open today, Monday, August 28:

 

• 7490 W Gulf-to-Lake Hwy, Crystal River (across from Dan's)

• 4508 S Grandmarch Ave, Homosassa (off Grover Cleveland)

 

In addition, the following self-serve sandbag sites are available to citizens:

 

• Bicentennial Park, 501 N Baseball Point, Crystal River

• Citronelle, 7888 W Dunklin St, Dunnellon

• Crystal River Firehouse, 650 NW 3rd Avenue (operated by the City of Crystal River)

• Floral Park, 9530 S Parkside Avenue, Floral City

• Homosassa Community Park, 4210 S Grandmarch Avenue, Homosassa

• Ozello Park Boat Ramp, 398 N. Pirate Point, Crystal River

• Spruce Drive Boat Ramp, 4865 E. Spruce Drive Dunnellon


 

Full-service sandbag sites are currently open from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Limit 12 bags per vehicle. Self-serve sites are open 24 hours but are not monitored overnight for availability of supplies. Sand and sandbags will be provided. Those wishing to take advantage of the self-serve sites will need to bring a shovel. If you have any questions about sandbag sites, contact the Citrus County Road Maintenance Division at (352) 527-7610.

 

The following shelters will be OPENING today at 1 p.m.:

• Central Ridge Elementary School (General Population) - 185 West Citrus Springs Blvd., Citrus Springs, FL 34434

• Citrus High School (General Population) - 600 West Highland Blvd., Inverness, FL 34452

The following shelters will be OPENING today at 4 p.m.:

• Citrus Springs Middle School (General Population) - 150 W Citrus Springs Blvd, Citrus Springs, FL 34434

•Central Ridge Elementary School (General) - 185 W Citrus Springs Blvd, Citrus Springs, FL 34434

•Forest Ridge Elementary School (Special Needs) - 2927 North Forest Ridge Blvd., Hernando, FL 34442

•Renaissance Center (Pet Friendly) - 3630 W Educational Path, Lecanto, FL 34461

•College of Central Florida (last resort option) - 3800 S Lecanto Hwy, Lecanto, FL 34461

 

Public shelters should be an option of last resort. Citizens should make all preparations to shelter with family or friends and exhaust all other options before utilizing a public shelter.

Sexual Offenders must report to the Citrus County Detention Facility to seek shelter if needed. The facility is located at 2604 W Woodland Ridge Dr., Lecanto, FL 34461.
